Vice President J.D. Vance offered blunt advice to Democrats still grappling with the reasons behind their 2024 loss to President Donald Trump, telling them during an interview on Wednesday that their best chance at improving their standing is to change their tone, as reported by The Western Journal.
Vance sat down with Fox News host Laura Ingraham on The Ingraham Angle for an exclusive interview where the conversation turned to Democrats’ attempts to imitate Trump’s style and tactics in the aftermath of his victory.

Ingraham pointed out that Democrats have begun to rely on name-calling and adopting a tougher persona in an effort to resonate with voters.

“Stop sounding like crazy people,” Vance told Ingraham. “That really is all it is.”
The vice president added that Trump’s political success stems from authenticity, something Democrats cannot replicate by imitation. “Free advice for Democrats: stop sounding like crazy people.
Trump’s success comes from being authentic—just be yourself and talk honestly about the issues. Part of sounding less crazy is being less crazy,” Vance said.
Ingraham later shared the clip on X, writing, “Free advice for Democrats: stop sounding like crazy people,” along with a video segment of Vance’s comments.

Expanding on his point, Vance said that Democrats are undermined by their embrace of policies such as transgender activism and their repeated attempts to label Trump a “fascist” for supporting law enforcement and cracking down on crime.
“I don’t think it’s that complicated. Don’t be a crazy person,” Vance emphasized.
“Part of sounding less crazy is being less crazy, and if the Democrats were less crazy, I think we’d all get along a whole lot better.”
Vance also singled out California Governor Gavin Newsom, who has recently tried to mirror Trump’s combative style in an effort to boost his national profile as a Democratic presidential hopeful.
According to Vance, attempts like Newsom’s do not change the substance of Democratic positions, which remain largely unpopular with voters.
The interview highlighted Vance’s broader view that Democrats have lost their ability to present a centrist, bipartisan vision, instead opposing Trump reflexively on every issue.

Vance argued that if Democrats were willing to concede on issues such as crime, they could present themselves as a more viable alternative, but their continued emphasis on race and gender-based politics drives voters away.
Vance pointed out that bipartisan agreement could be found on shared values such as safer communities and opposition to racism and sexism, but insisted that Democrats’ fixation on opposing Trump at all costs has prevented them from pursuing such a platform.
The comments come as Democrats continue their internal debate over strategy heading into the 2025 political season, with some in the party pushing to adopt more aggressive tactics while others call for a recalibration after losing to Trump in November 2024.
