James Carville Rants Against Trump’s ‘Big, Beautiful Bill’ After Passage

Democratic strategist James Carville launched into a fiery, no-holds-barred criticism of President Donald Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill” following its passage Thursday.

The House of Representatives passed Trump’s “big, beautiful” bill by a 218-214 vote after Speaker Mike Johnson rallied conservative holdouts, while Republican Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky and Republican Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania joined Democrats to oppose the legislation. In a Thursday episode of the “Politics War Room” podcast, Carville demanded the bill be the focal point for the Democratic Party through 2026.

“We need to continue to talk about it. This has to be the rallying point of the Democratic Party from now to 2026. We don’t need to discuss any divisions in the party. We don’t need to discuss anything. We need to have a unified, totally vigorous, totally relentless, never looking back opposition to this,” Carville said. “I have to say that I think our Democratic representatives in Congress [are] doing a good job.”

Carville called for the public to see the “stink” of the bill.

“Do anything you can to get this fish out in the sun so it can rot more, and people can get even a better sense of the stench that’s coming from this,” Carville said.

His criticism didn’t stop there. Carville directly challenged Republicans who planned to take their support for the bill “on the road,” urging Democrats to counter their efforts with grassroots opposition.

“May I make a suggestion, teaching one of you?” Carville asked. “Find out where some Republican has this on the road and show up. Make your own signs. More veteran suicide, rural hospital closures, more forest fires. No weather service. I’ll give you one example. I’m speaking in the Shenandoah Valley. I live not very far from what I think is the most visited national park in the country, the Shenandoah. The national park, which has the Skyline Drive. They are so depleted with park rangers they’re scared to death they’re going to have some emergency this summer.”

“I’m not telling you you shouldn’t take your family and drive on the Skyline Drive because it’s remarkable. I do it all the time. But it may not be there. And that’s right. It may not be there. Just like the hospital in rural America, it may not be there. Veterans now are committing suicides at the rate of 17.6 a day. It’ll probably go up to 25 a day.”

Carville’s language grew increasingly combative.

“So maybe you get your family, your extended family. A lot of people do. You got parents and grandparents, childrens, nieces, nephews, friends, hangers on, little snotnoses, diapers full of shit, whatever else comes with a family. And maybe you should motor to one of these rallies and hold up signs and let people see exactly what they’re doing. Because they think they’re going to go with this bullshit and sell this giant stinking turd with a giant sewer fan blowing his odor all over the United States,” Carville added.

“And maybe you can ramp up the RPMs on that giant sewer fan and let people get the stench of how terrible and awful and un-American and un-Judeo-Christian Islamic tradition of ethical culture, anything that you want to think of. This thing is a giant stinking turd, and it needs a giant sewer fan to dispense its odor all over the country. It already is stinking. You got to make it stink more.”

He didn’t mince words when addressing those in the political establishment who were open to compromise. (RELATED: ‘Seniors Will Starve, People Will Die’: Democrat Rep Dingell Melts Down After Big, Beautiful Bill Passes)

“And pay no attention to the chin scratchers. Pay no attention to the institutionalists. Pay no attention to the assholes that went on morning TV and said we can work with this guy or maybe we can meet him halfway,” Carville said.

Prior to its passing, some Democrats attempted to stop the GOP’s “Big Beautiful Bill” as House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries used a procedural rule known as a “magic minute” to deliver a lengthy, over four-hour speech on the House floor. Starting at 4:53 a.m., Jeffries’ rant about Trump’s spending package forced his colleagues to endure his remarks, with a few unable to stay awake and falling asleep in their seats.
