Vice President JD Vance said during a Sunday appearance on “Meet the Press” that the U.S. is “not at war” with Iran following the bombings of three nuclear facilities.
President Donald Trump announced the bombings of its primary target, Fordow, along with Natanz and Esfahan, in a Saturday night Truth Social post. Vance said that rather than being at war with Iran, the U.S. is “at war” with Iran’s nuclear program.
“No, Kristen [Welker], we’re not at war with Iran. We’re at war with Iran’s nuclear program and let me just say, Kristen, that we’re incredibly grateful and proud of the American Air Force pilots who did an incredible job last night,” Vance said. “The operation was really extraordinary. These guys flew from Missouri, they didn’t land a single time, they dropped 30,000 pound bombs on a target the size of a washing machine and then got back home safely without ever landing in the Middle East or ever stopping other than to briefly refuel, and of course they did that in the air.” (RELATED: Trump Addresses Nation After Bombing Iran)

Vance said the operation was a “testament to the power of American military,” which he said successfully carried out the operation without “endangering the lives” of the pilots.
“Whatever our politics, we should be proud of what these guys accomplished,” the vice president added.
The strike came just two days after Trump said he would decide within two weeks whether the U.S. would directly get involved with Iran. Some high-profile members of congress, including Senate Majority Republican John Thune of South Dakota and Democratic Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman, supported Trump’s move.
Democratic California Rep. Ro Khanna and Republican Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie have staunchly opposed the strikes by Trump, with Massie even calling the action “unconstitutional” in a Saturday statement. The two congressmen introduced legislation Tuesday in an attempt to block Trump from conducting “unauthorized hostilities” with Iran.
