Jeanine Pirro Secures D.C. U.S. Attorney Post Following Bitter Confirmation Fight

Former Fox News host and longtime New York prosecutor Jeanine Pirro was confirmed Saturday as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia after a contentious, party-line battle in the Senate.

“I am blessed to have received a Senate confirmation vote this evening of 50 to 45 to be the United States attorney for the District of Columbia the largest United States Attorney’s Office in the country,” Pirro posted on X. “Thank you to those senators who supported my confirmation and DC- get ready for a real crime fighter.”

The 73-year-old was approved by a narrow 50-45 vote, overcoming sharp opposition from congressional Democrats who slammed President Donald Trump’s decision to nominate her for the post. Pirro had been serving in an acting capacity since May. (RELATED: Trump Makes Judge Jeanine Pirro Interim US Attorney For DC)

Before her high-profile television career as a co-host on Fox News’ “The Five,” Pirro spent decades in public service. She served as a prosecutor in Westchester County for 15 years, beginning as an assistant district attorney and later elected as a judge in 1990. In 1993, she made history as the first woman elected district attorney in the county.

Pirro has built a reputation as a tough-on-crime prosecutor and a vocal defender of conservative causes. In fact, in response to the DC Police Union congratulating her on X, Pirro responded, “Thanks to the DC POLICE UNION – we will work together to clean up DC.”

During the confirmation hearings, Pirro pledged to approach the role with a “full respect for the Constitution and rule of law.”
