Jen Psaki faces big blow following hyped up new gig

MSNBC’s ratings are continuing to spiral downward, and now even their prime time slot is seeing an exodus of viewership.

As BizPac Review previously reported, Fox News has continued its complete and total domination over competing mainstream media outlets CNN and MSNBC. However, MSNBC’s one saving grace was its prime time viewership, which doubled “since its drop before President Donald Trump’s inauguration.”

“April was the network’s highest-rated month since October. Rachel Maddow’s prime time show also cracked the top 10 shows on cable news for the month, with Fox scoring the other 13 programs in the top 14,” Mediaite reported.

However, Jen Psaki’s takeover of the 9 pm Tuesday-Friday timeslot with a show called The Briefing appears to be chipping away at the only viewership the outlet has left.

Psaki’s previous show, Inside, demonstrated her promise and resulted in her being selected to cover for Maddow, who had previously occupied the prime time slot five days a week to cover Trump’s first 100 days in office. She has since returned to her Monday-night-only schedule, but the shocking decline in ratings may cause MSNBC to hit the panic button.

“According to Nielsen data, The Briefing launched on Tuesday with a respectable 1.2 million total viewers and 139,000 in the critical 25–54 age demographic – the group most coveted by advertisers,” the Daily Mail reported. “But by Wednesday night, Psaki’s audience cratered to just over one million viewers, and her key demo numbers plunged by 53 percent, down to a startling 65,000.”

As if this wasn’t bad enough, viewership among the 18–49 demographic fell off by 67 percent from Tuesday to Wednesday.

And it’s not just other cable news outlets that are trashing MSNBC’s newest show in the ratings.

“Psaki’s show was outperformed in the demographic by reruns of ‘Seinfeld,’ ‘Friends,’ ‘Bob’s Burgers,’ ‘The King of Queens,’ and even Nickelodeon’s ‘Paw Patrol,’” the Daily Mail noted.
