Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of President John F. Kennedy, has announced his bid for a House seat from New York.
Mr. Schlossberg aims to succeed New York Rep. Jerry Nadler, a fellow Democrat who’s retiring.
The son of former diplomat Caroline Kennedy and designer-artist Edwin Schlossberg first shared the news in an email to supporters, The New York Times reported.
The 32-year-old Mr. Schlossberg, who has never held public office, is a political commentator and writer, having been published in The Washington Post, Politico and Time magazine.
He said that he has “always been passionate about politics — you can probably gather as much if you’ve seen any of my social media posts.”
He campaigned last year for President Joseph R. Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, who replaced Mr. Biden on the ballot.
Mr. Schlossberg frequently criticizes his cousin, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the secretary of Health and Human Services.
The congressional hopeful also has slammed President Trump for “tanking the economy, attacking free speech and sowing distrust in decades of scientific research.”
He took to social media to say that the country is in a constitutional and corruption crisis at the hands of Mr. Trump.
His announcement comes as Democrats are vying for control of the House in the 2026 midterm elections.
“We deserve better, and we can do better, and it starts with the Democratic Party winning back control of the House of Representatives,” Mr. Schlossberg said on social media.
He is entering what is expected to be a crowded Democratic primary, which includes state assembly members Micah Lasher and Alex Bores, journalist Jami Floyd and nonprofit founder Liam Elkind.
“I have big shoes to fill. I’ve known it all my life. But this is even bigger than living up to my family name,” Mr. Schlossberg said. “This is about serving the people of New York — the city that shaped me into the person I am today.”
Mr. Schlossberg would be at least the seventh member of the extended Kennedy family to serve in Congress if he wins.
