Jim Acosta tells KJP he worried Biden would drop dead

Daily Caller News Foundation

Former CNN host Jim Acosta told former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre on “The Jim Acosta Show” on Wednesday that he feared former President Joe Biden would perish in office.

Biden reportedly suffered both physical and cognitive issues during his only term as president, but Jean-Pierre has repeatedly downplayed his decline. Acosta told Jean-Pierre on his show that he particularly panicked that Biden would pass away before the 2024 election and asked for her response, but she did not directly answer.

“I guess I was worried that he couldn’t make it another four years physically, like he could die in office or something like that … I covered [President] Donald Trump up close and personal,” Acosta said. “I know what he’s all about. I think he’s a danger to this country.”

“My concern was that it was too great a risk to take for Joe Biden to have run again in 2024,” he added. “And I thought going into that cycle, I was like, ‘Gosh, what if he were to get the nomination and something were to happen? Or what if, on the day before the election, something were to happen?’ … What do you make of that when you hear it from people?”

Jean-Pierre declined to directly engage with the question, calling it hypothetical before pivoting to other topics.

“Look, I think he decided to run. These are a lot of hypotheticals,” she said. “It turned out the way that it did. And I can’t go back in time in that fashion, right?”

“I think it is important to learn from what happened during this time last year — why we lost, millions of people who came out in 2020 didn’t come out in 2024,” she continued. “That’s something that I think Democrats need to really look under the hood and figure out what happened. And I think in this moment right now, we have to figure out how to fight and protect democracy. And that is where we are.”

Jean-Pierre also noted Biden would likely explain why he decided to run for reelection in his upcoming book.

Biden’s personal office announced in May that the former president had received a prostate cancer diagnosis. Doctors and cancer experts told The Daily Caller shortly after the diagnosis announcement that Biden likely had the disease the entire time he was president.

Moreover, Biden himself suggested in a January USA Today interview that he was uncertain if he could have completed another term as president.

“Who the hell knows? So far, so good,” he said in the interview. “But who knows what I’m going to be when I’m 86 years old?”
