Jim Henson puppet memorabilia headed to auction for first time this year

Some of the memorabilia from the Muppets, “Fraggle Rock,” “The Dark Crystal” and other shows from Jim Henson is being put up for auction for the first time.

The more than 400 lots that will be auctioned off by the Jim Henson Company include puppets and props from “Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas,” “The Hoobs,” various Muppets films and TV shows, “The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance” and other properties.

The auction will be held Nov. 25, with online bidding opening Oct. 22, which would have been Henson’s 89th birthday.

It marks the 70th anniversary of late founder Henson’s first TV show, “Sam and Friends,” which introduced Kermit and aired on Washington-area TV station WRC-TV in 1955.

“With tens of thousands of items catalogued in The Jim Henson Company’s Archive from our 70-year history, it has been an exciting project to select the pieces that will be a part of this auction. This landmark event is sure to include something for every fan and collector interested in the Henson legacy and our contributions to pop culture and entertainment,” the Jim Henson Company Director of the Archives Karen Falk said.

The auction will be held online at the Julien’s Auctions website and live at the Jim Henson Company facility in Los Angeles starting at 10 a.m. PDT on Nov. 25.

The proceeds from the sale will go toward the company’s archives.
