It turns out that late-night host Jimmy Kimmel’s removal from the air wasn’t exactly the surprise some people think.
A Page Six exclusive reveals that Kimmel’s future at ABC was already uncertain before the inflammatory Charlie Kirk comments, according to “multiple sources.”
“Sources said the network could’ve used the furor over his outspoken nightly monologues to pull the plug early and avoid another year of Kimmel’s controversial comments,” the outlet reported
“One insider said Disney chief Bob Iger ‘doesn’t want to be at war with Donald Trump right now, just as he has stabilized Disney,’” the article continued. “’I don’t know what they are planning, but maybe the uproar is so loud Jimmy can’t come back.’”
This comes as a staffer for Kimmel admits that there may be no coming back for the late-night comedy show.
“I want to think it will. But I can’t imagine a scenario in which that happens. Even if Jimmy was willing to publicly apologize and donate money to whatever ghoulish conservative group that is demanding it… MAGA people will never be happy. It will never be enough,” the staffer told the “Too Much TV” newsletter.
“And Disney will look at the situation and decide it’s cheaper to buy out the rest of his contract and replace the show with reruns of Modern Family and Judge Judy. Somehow, they’ll convince themselves the worst is behind them. Until a day or two pass and they find themselves having to defend Whoopi and the other women of The View. And no one wants to be in that position.”
When asked if they thought critics may have had a point about Jimmy’s incendiary monologue, the staffer had a revealing point of view.
“Even if I thought that, I would never say it out loud. I would feel as if I was betraying the show. But no, I don’t think they had a point,” they said. The Trump folks are like that crooked cop who wants to pull over a driver and waits until they make some slight mistake. ‘Oh, I’m sorry, Mr. Black Guy, you didn’t come to a complete stop and look both ways at that last stop sign.’ That’s our show. We were always a running stop away from unemployment.”
Meanwhile, Kimmel was reportedly spotted in Century City, where he was said to be visiting his attorney, Karl Austen. Austen has represented such high-profile names as “Seth MacFarlane, Jude Law, Dave Bautista and Jeffrey Wright,” according to Page Six.
