Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro said an arsonist set the governor’s mansion on fire early Sunday, forcing Mr. Shapiro and his family to evacuate the home in Harrisburg.
The Democratic governor said Pennsylvania State Police banged on the door and woke up the family around 2 a.m.
Authorities said no one was injured in the blaze that broke out in a different part of the residence where Mr. Shapiro and his family were staying.
“Every day, we stand with the law enforcement and first responders who run towards danger to protect our communities,” Mr. Shapiro posted Sunday on X. “Last night, they did so for our family — and Lori and I are eternally grateful to them for keeping us safe.”
Pennsylvania State Police have not named any suspects or persons of interest in their investigation, but authorities added they are “prepared to say at this time that this was an act of arson.”
Police said crews were able to put out the fire, but the flames caused a significant amount of damage to part of the mansion.
Authorities offered a reward of up to $10,000 for tipsters who share information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.
