Joy Reid Says U.S. is ‘Marginally Better’ Than Iran in Podcast Remarks [WATCH]

Former cable news host Joy Reid said during a recent podcast appearance that the United States is only “marginally better” than Iran, drawing comparisons between American policies and the Iranian regime while discussing ongoing tensions between the two countries, as reported by Fox News.

Reid made the comments on the “One54 Africa” podcast on March 11, where she appeared alongside host Akbar Gbajabiamila and comedian Godfrey.

The discussion came as U.S. forces continue Operation Epic Fury, a military campaign targeting Iran.

“Our regime has secret police. They have secret police,” Reid said.

“Our regime is oppressing women, taking away abortion rights, taking away women’s rights in like 26 states, some states where they’re trying to have the death penalty for having an abortion. They also oppress women,” she added.

Reid clarified during the discussion that she was not suggesting Iran’s government is “not bad,” but instead argued that the United States operates on a similar moral level in certain areas.

“So, we’re marginally better. And we’re doing it for Christianity. They’re doing it for Islam, right?” Reid said.

She also claimed that Iran has the “highest rate” of women in STEM fields and argued that changes in U.S. policies related to diversity, equity, and inclusion have made it more difficult for women to pursue careers in science, as well as affecting participation in the military and higher education.

Reid further addressed historical tensions between the United States and Iran, referencing the 1953 coup backed by the United States and Britain. She argued that such actions contribute to Iran’s hostility toward Western nations.

“We get told, particularly when it comes to Arabs and Muslims and Africans, that people are just diabolically evil for no reason. That they do things because they’re just, they hate our freedoms,” Reid said.

“But it turns out there’s a lot of reasons Iran should hate us. We took their freedom. And we don’t get told that.”

Reid, whose program was canceled by MSNBC last year, made the remarks as the United States continues its military operations in the region.

President Donald Trump has not provided a timeline for the conclusion of Operation Epic Fury, which he has previously described as an “excursion,” but has said the mission is ahead of schedule.

According to available reports, at least 13 U.S. troops have died during the conflict.

The Pentagon has also announced a formal investigation into a Feb. 28 strike following claims from Iranian officials that more than 100 children were killed at a school located near a military compound.

Reid’s comments have circulated online following the podcast appearance, drawing attention to her comparison between U.S. policies and the Iranian government as geopolitical tensions continue.
