Judge Declares Mistrial On Rape Charge In Harvey Weinstein Case

A Manhattan judge declared a mistrial on Harvey Weinstein’s rape charge Thursday in a shocking courtroom twist.

The unexpected ruling was made after the jury foreperson claimed that the other jurors threatened him, and he refused to return to the jury room, according to TMZ.

The nature of the conversation between the jurors was not made public, and it remains unclear what triggered the alleged threat.

Weinstein was convicted on one count of rape and two counts of sexual assault in Los Angeles, California, in 2023. He was sentenced to more than 16 years in prison.

The decision to end deliberations came one day after the jury delivered a mixed verdict Wednesday.

They convicted the disgraced entertainment mogul of first-degree criminal sexual act for the 2006 case of former production assistant Miriam Haley, who accused Weinstein of forcibly performing oral sex on her at his Manhattan residence, according to The Guardian.

The jury acquitted him on a separate charge of criminal sexual act related to similar allegations made by model Kaja Sokola for another alleged 2006 incident, the outlet reported. (RELATED: Harvey Weinstein Indicted On New Charges While In Hospital, Prosecutors Say)
