The majority of voters don’t think the Tobacco and Vapes Bill is a top priority for government, according to research from Forest Group seen by Guido. It begins its long-awaited Committee stage in the Lords on 27 October…
According to a string of Yonder Consulting polls, only 42% of Brits think this bill is important – making it the second least important piece of legislation, just ahead of the House of Lords (Hereditary Peers) bill. Fewer than two in five (39%) said tackling smoking is important. They prioritise the NHS, cost-of-living, immigration and the housing crisis. Not a surprise…
Simon Clark, director the smokers’ rights group Forest, said:
“Contrary to what the stop smoking brigade would have us believe, further anti-smoking measures are not on most people’s wish list. It demonstrates just how out of touch this Labour government is. If ministers had any respect for ordinary people, they would put their ideological hatred of tobacco to one side and focus on the issues that really matter to voters.”
