Kamala Harris still refuses to acknowledge Biden’s declining health in office: ‘He was not frail’

Former Vice President Kamala Harris is sticking to her story that former President Joseph R. Biden’s health wasn’t slipping while he was in office.

​While promoting her campaign memoir “107 Days” in a TV interview Wednesday in London, Ms. Harris repeatedly had to deal with questions not about herself but about her former boss’ diminished capacity — and the answer was always the same.

ABC TV news host Sarah Ferguson pressed Ms. Harris about her responsibility to “step up and say something” about Mr. Biden’s reelection bid before he was forced to drop out of the race.

“I did not question Joe Biden’s capacity to be president at all,” Ms. Harris said.

Her often-repeated response contradicts a recent report by a Republican-led House committee that found Mr. Biden’s actions were “not all his own” while he was president.

After the interview, Ms. Ferguson commented that Ms. Harris was reluctant to spell out the apparent frailty of Mr. Biden, 82.

When asked if Mr. Biden’s frailties as president put her on the path for a failed presidential bid, Ms. Harris talked about President Trump.

Ms. Ferguson interjected. “That is a world-class pivot, but it is not the question I asked you. Are you still reluctant to criticize the former president?”

After some back and forth, Ms. Harris said, “He was not frail as president of the United States.”

“I do believe Joe Biden had the capacity to be president of the United States, and I have never doubted he had the capacity to be president of the United States,” she continued.

Ms. Ferguson later pressed the former vice president on whether she had a reason not to answer questions about Mr. Biden’s frailties. Ms. Harris said she addressed that in her book.

“It seems to me she doesn’t want to say it on camera,” Ms. Ferguson said in her commentary posted on social media. “I asked her that, she denied it, but I think there is still a reluctance there to criticize Joe Biden.”

In the interview, however, Ms. Harris admits she made a mistake in not intervening when Mr. Biden decided to run for reelection.
