Kamala says no run for Calif. governor because Dem-run political system is ‘broken’

Soon-to-be-canceled Stephen Colbert kept alive for 2025 his impressive string of booking liberal guests over conservatives, interviewing “devout public servant” Kamala Harris — through the first six months of this year, “The Late Show” reportedly booked 43 liberal political guests, compared to zero conservatives.

(Since 2022, Colbert has hosted 176 left-leaning guests and only one Republican, according to Newsbusters.)

The failed 2024 Democratic presidential nominee admitted to Colbert that she will not be running for governor of California, but offered an eyebrow-raising reason for the decision.

After stating that her career has been defined as fighting from “inside the system,” Harris then declared that the political system in California is “broken.” A system that has been in the grasp of Democrats for decades.

“I am a devout public servant. I have spent my entire career in service of the people. And I thought a lot about running for governor. I love my state. I love California,” Harris said. “I’ve served as elected district attorney, attorney general, and senator. But to be very candid with you, when I was young in my career, I had to defend my decision to become a prosecutor with my family.”

“And one of the points that I made is, why is it then, when we think we want to improve a system or change it, that we’re always on the outside, on bended knee, or trying to break down the door? Shouldn’t we also be inside the system? And that has been my career,” she continued. “And recently, I made the decision that I just — for now — I don’t want to go back in the system. I think it’s broken.”

Harris is promoting her upcoming book, titled “107 Days,” which is set for publication in September. The book will focus on her brief stint as the party’s nominee after President Biden was felled in an internal coup, culminating in her thorough loss to President Donald Trump.

“I believe — and I always believed — that as fragile as our democracy is, our systems would be strong enough to defend our most fundamental principles. And I think right now that they’re not as strong as they need to be,” she said. “And I just don’t want to — for now — I don’t want to go back in the system. I want to travel the country. I want to listen to people. I want to talk with people. And I don’t want it to be transactional, where I’m asking for their vote.”

Of course, the transaction Harris is interested in involves the purchase of her book.

Either way, social media users had a field day at Harris’ expense — “bended knee” — some things never change.

Here’s a sampling of the responses to the story, as seen on X:
