U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM) Senior Adviser Kari Lake brought up a rumor about a congressman’s former “gay lover” during a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing Wednesday.
The hearing concerned the fate of Voice of America (VOA), a heavily left-wing biased state broadcaster under the helm of USAGM that Lake is desperately trying to reform.
But during the hearing, Democrat Rep. Greg Stanton asked her why anyone would trust her reformed version of the VOA, given her alleged penchant for lying about Arizona’s elections.
Listen:
Kari Lake lied about losing her own election—despite losing in court over and over again.
How the hell can Americans trust her as the head of the U.S. Agency for Global Media?

“The American people cannot believe a word you say,” Stanton claimed. “You ran for governor in Arizona in 2022. You lost, fair and square.”
“Instead of conceding, you embarrassed yourself and our state by lying again and again for years, blaming everything under the sun for your loss except for your own toxic politics. You lie about that election to this very day,” he added.
Responding to Stanton’s words, Lake dropped the hammer by first apologizing to Arizonians for being represented by somebody who “doesn’t care about the integrity of our elections.”
But she was just getting warmed up.

“We were talking about USAGM today, the Agency for Global Media, and how they could put out absolute, abject lies that we can’t control,” she continued. “We have no say over what the editorial content is, and I would hope that you would not be OK with that.”
“They could literally put out a lie about anybody here, and I know you’ve been the victim of that. I remember the stories about you where they said you had a gay lover,” she said.
Her remarks prompted Rep. Bill Keating, a Democrat, to interrupt and demand that what she’d just said be stricken from the record. Afterward, Lake continued with her point.
“Those kinds of lies could be broadcast today on VOA, and you couldn’t pick up the phone, Rep. Stanton, and call them and say, ‘Hey, you’re putting out lies about me,’” she said. “You would not be able to do that because they would sue you for breaking the firewall.”
“So lies are being told on Voice of America. It’s inappropriate. You’ve been subjected to lies that you said were lies about you in the media before. And how would you like it if those lies were put on Voice of America right now? Because they could do it, and you couldn’t do a thing about it. You couldn’t stop it. You couldn’t stop all those lies that you said were said about you if they went on Voice of America today. You’d have to sit and take it,” she concluded.
After the hearing, Stanton responded to the innuendo with the following tweet:

The media, meanwhile, rushed to “fact-check” Lake’s rumor, despite her already having made it clear upfront that the rumor was exactly that — just a mindless, meaningless rumor.
“To be clear: Lake appears to have made those ‘stories’ up,” according to the Phoenix New Times. “There seems to be no evidence of any old ‘stories’ about Stanton’s sexuality, nor did Lake specify who ‘they’ were.”
“Two longtime Arizona journalists, Brahm Resnik of 12 News and Garrett Archer of ABC 15, both said they’d never heard of any such rumors about Stanton,” the paper added.
All this comes months after President Donald Trump signed an executive order pledging that “taxpayers are no longer on the hook for radical propaganda.”
Around that time, Lake vowed to transform USAGM and VOA “into something the American people are willing to support.”
