White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt issued a pointed response Thursday to comments made by Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX), who recently suggested that supporters of President Donald Trump suffer from mental illness.
Crockett’s remarks, made during a media interview, drew national attention and prompted a direct rebuttal during the White House Press Briefing.
Responding to a reporter’s question about Crockett’s statements, Leavitt said, “I think it’s incredibly derogatory to accuse nearly 80 million Americans of mental illness. The last time I checked, Jasmine Crockett couldn’t dream of winning such a majority of the public as President Trump did.”

Leavitt went on to defend the character of Trump’s voter base, saying, “The America First movement, which President Trump has built, is filled with hardworking patriots — the forgotten men and women, business owners, law enforcement officers, nurses, teachers, and middle America… that’s who make up this president’s movement.”
She concluded her remarks by inviting Rep. Crockett to witness a Trump rally firsthand. “Jasmine Crockett should go to a Trump rally sometime, and she can see it for herself.”

The comments come after Crockett’s interview with journalist Katie Couric, where the congresswoman claimed that she had not observed any evidence of cognitive decline in former President Joe Biden and offered strong defenses of both Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.
“I never saw anything in Joe Biden that made me wonder whatsoever,” Crockett said in the interview, adding, “Not a single one. I still stand by the decision to stand with President Joe Biden and then ultimately standing with Vice President Kamala Harris.”
Crockett admitted during the interview that her access to the president was limited, stating she had “not had close access to him.” However, she remained firm in her position, claiming Biden’s “mental acuity” was “supreme” to that of President Trump.
She also praised Vice President Harris, stating she was “light years ahead of Donald Trump as it relates to qualifications, as it relates to her overall resume.”
During the interview, Crockett also criticized President Trump’s immigration policies and military celebrations.
She specifically referenced Trump’s support for mass repatriation efforts and a parade honoring the U.S. Army, calling them “sick.”
“Anybody that supports it is also sick,” she said.
“We’ve got a mental health crisis in this country because everyone — no matter how you affiliate yourself — should be against Trump. Period. This is not partisan for me.”
She went on to add, “I would give anything to have — sad to say — George Bush. Like, give me any regular Republican nowadays, and I would be happy.”
“I don’t know how far he [Trump] has to go before we can come together and just say, ‘Enough is enough.’ Like, this should not be partisanship,” she concluded.
