A senior Department of Homeland Security (DHS) official pushed back sharply on Wednesday against reality television star Kim Kardashian’s criticism of recent immigration enforcement actions in Los Angeles, where federal agents have conducted multiple arrests targeting individuals with serious criminal records.
Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary at DHS, publicly responded to Kardashian’s social media post, in which the 44-year-old media figure described the enforcement operations as “inhumane” and claimed that “innocent, hardworking people” were being targeted.
Kardashian’s original comments were posted to Instagram Stories and later cited by the New York Post.

“No matter where you fall politically, it’s clear that our communities thrive because of the contributions of immigrants,” Kardashian wrote.
“We can’t turn a blind eye when fear and injustice keep people from living their lives freely and safely. There HAS to be a BETTER way.”
McLaughlin posted a reply to Kardashian on X, stating: “@KimKardashian, which one of these convicted child molesters, murderers, drug traffickers, and rapists would you like to stay in the county?”
McLaughlin’s post included the criminal records of four individuals recently apprehended by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during a 72-hour enforcement period in the Los Angeles area.

The arrests occurred amid ongoing anti-ICE protests and riots in response to recent immigration enforcement activity.

Among those arrested was Eswin Uriel Castro, an illegal immigrant previously deported and later convicted of child molestation and possession of a dangerous weapon.
ICE also apprehended Gerardo Antonio-Palacios, a Mexican national with convictions for homicide and burglary; Antonio Benitez-Ugarte, also from Mexico, who was convicted of drug trafficking; and Mab Khleb, a 53-year-old Cambodian national with a record that includes possession and transport of a controlled substance, lewd acts with a child, and battery.
The public dispute between Kardashian and DHS officials comes as the department continues high-profile enforcement operations in Southern California.
President Donald Trump ordered increased immigration enforcement following the arrest of multiple criminal illegal immigrants with prior deportation orders.
The department’s criticism of high-profile critics extended beyond Kardashian.
On Wednesday, DHS also responded to a social media post by the press office of California Governor Gavin Newsom.
The governor’s office had shared a meme referencing a Star Wars scene, using a voiceover to mock language originally posted by White House Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller on Truth Social.
Miller’s post had read: “The insurrectionist mobs will be defeated. Our love for America is stronger than their hatred. Sovereignty will be restored. The illegals will be returned. Our way of life will prevail.”
In response, DHS replied with another meme, stating: “Don’t make me tap the sign. Liberals don’t know things. They don’t read history, they don’t obsess over stats, the few data points they do see they forget. Their entire world is driven by the consumption of fiction.”

The exchange reflects broader tensions between federal immigration authorities and progressive politicians and public figures opposing recent enforcement efforts.
California officials, including Governor Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, have criticized the Trump administration’s deployment of National Guard troops and federal agents during ongoing riots linked to anti-ICE protests.
Despite the criticism, DHS has maintained that its operations are targeting individuals with serious felony records and prior deportation orders.
The department continues to assert that enforcement efforts are lawful and focused on ensuring public safety.
