KJP rages at Democrats over their public ‘betrayal’ of Biden

Former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre expressed anger at Democrats on Tuesday over their “betrayal” of former President Joe Biden.

During her appearance on “The View,” Jean-Pierre partially attributed her exit from the Democratic Party to their treatment of Biden before he dropped out of the 2024 race, stating that they were “disrespectful” and treated him in a “humiliating way.” Many congressional Democrats called on Biden to drop out after the public witnessed his mental and physical decline during the June 27, 2024, debate against then-presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump.

“It was very personal to me because I lived it and breathed it every single day,” Jean-Pierre said. “And I’m going to tell you right now to anyone who’s watching, President Biden was one of the most decent people that I’ve ever met. And he literally woke up every morning wanting to make this country better for the American people. And whatever view that you may have of him, treating him the way that he was treated in those three weeks was awful.”

“And it was something that I just had never seen before. It was so disrespectful to a man who had given more than 50 years of public service,” Jean-Pierre continued.

A total of 37 Democratic members of Congress called on Biden to drop out, saying he was unfit to serve a second term. These calls ultimately led Biden to step out of the race on July 21 and endorse former Vice President Kamala Harris. 

CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson wrote in their book, “Original Sin,” that Biden’s top aides and Democrats were “lying” about the former president’s condition until the American people saw it for themselves during the debate. The media, including Tapper, previously defended Biden’s health when questioned about his decline.

During the debate, White House aides asserted Biden was battling a cold. They went on to call his performance a “bad night.”

Biden’s physician, Kevin O’Connor, told his aides that the then-president may become wheelchair-bound if he fell again, prompting them to take precautions like shorter walking paths, using handrails on stairs, and having Biden wear sneakers, Axios reported. Before the election, Biden’s aides said his halting walk was a result of a November 2022 foot fracture, though O’Connor said at the time this injury had completely healed.

White House aides also provided pre-prepared notecards with instructions for which reporters to call on and how to answer their questions.

Jean-Pierre has defended Biden repeatedly, claiming he was mentally competent and frequently engaged with the press.
