So too is the situation up in the Royal Gallery for speech itself. MPs and ministers are gathering – they were meant to have reserved seats beforehand. Some Cabinet ministers thought they could get away without doing so…

Guido hears business secretary Jonathan Reynolds, Northern Ireland sec Hilary Benn, and science sec Peter Kyle have all turned up only to find they are without a seat. Surrounding MPs heard Reynolds demand from the doorkeeper why he didn’t have a seat at the front. He then slunk to the backbench area on the side…

Hilary Benn has meanwhile been seen marching up and down the front gallery area to see if everyone did indeed reserve their seats – via a simple RSVP – with parliament staff before. They did. Eventually Rachel Reeves has been moved so that Benn can have a seat in the reserved area. No such luck for Kyle or Reynolds. Too used to freebies for their own good…
