Labour can’t even say how many asylum hotels they have closed since coming into office. That grand pledge to close all asylum hotels going as well as Lammy’s “strongest checks ever” to ensure migrant offenders don’t accidentally get released…
In response to a parliamentary question on how many hotels have been closed since July last year, Home Office minister Alex Norris said:
“This Government recognises that hotels are not a sustainable solution for accommodating asylum seekers and remains committed to ending their use, already reducing the number in operation. We do not provide a running commentary on hotel numbers, our objective is to close all asylum hotels by the end of this Parliament, reducing costs to the taxpayer and restoring control to local communities.”
Last December, then-Home Secretary Yvette Cooper proudly declared she had ordered the closure of seven asylum hotels. Today, Labour can’t even confirm if they’ve actually closed down one. Seems it’s the Labour way never to respond to a question when you know the awkward answer…
