Labour Handed Secret Early Defence Review Copies to Trade Unions
Labour handed confidential defence review documents to their trade union friends before it was officially announced. The Tories have asked about 30 questions in Parliament demanding more information on who was handed secret Strategic Defence Review copies ahead of time. They have already alleged Labour broke the ministerial code three times over with the surreptitious briefings…
While Labour is stonewalling on who was given what and when it has let slip that trade unions were privy to the full details. Defence minister Luke Pollard said:
“For the launch of the Strategic Defence Review, the Government offered embargoed briefings to our people and senior defence leaders, plus certain Parliamentarians, trade unions, businesses, allies and media. This was broadly consistent with the approach for previous defence reviews.”
The Tories said at the time that this is not normal and it was doubly improper for them to be denied access until the official announcement in the Commons in the afternoon. With Rayner’s Employment Rights Bill on the way the unions are one step closer to running the country…
