Trade minister Douglas Alexander was rolled out on the morning media round to face questions over Angela Rayner’s future. He admitted there were “fair questions” for her to answer and promised a “rigorous testing process” will be followed in the probe. On Times Radio, Alexander said:
“These are fair questions, indeed good questions, but they’re questions for Sir Laurie Magnus, the independent adviser on ministerial standards. That will be a rigorous testing process. Keir Starmer first strengthened the ministerial code and then strengthened the role of the independent adviser on ministerial standards. It will be for the Prime Minister, as always, to make judgments in relation to his ministers.”
Meanwhile, the firm that handled Rayner’s Hove flat – Verrico & Associates – said last night they never gave her tax or trust advice, and that they were being made into “scapegoats”. As Guido revealed, Sir Laurie Magnus is expected to publish his findings this afternoon. Clock is ticking…
