In a slightly stranger written parliamentary question Rupert Lowe asked Labour if they could name “the total estimated cost to the public purse of experiments to dim the Sun.” Did someone say UK DOGE?

In response a science minister today confirmed the Advanced Research and Invention Agency’s (ARIA) ‘Exploring Climate Cooling’ programme is “backed by £56.8 million” to “properly assess whether or not Earth cooling approaches could help to mitigate climate change safely.” Labour took pains in their answer to stress this is “localised, very short term and reversible and will comply with relevant domestic and international regulation.” Reassured yet?
