Jenrick asked the MoJ:
“How many prisoners serving sentences for sexual offences have been erroneously released since 1 April 2025.”
Apart from giving excuses (“Releases in error have been increasing for several years and are another symptom of the prison system crisis inherited by this Government“) a justice minister has refused to say:
“The number of people who have been released in error since April 2025 cannot be provided because it would form a subset of releases in error data which underpins future versions of these Official Statistics.”
Statistics published in July show that 262 prisoners were released in error in the 12 months to March, which is a 128% increase on the year before. No wonder Labour isn’t keen to say how many have been let out under their watch since then…
