The General Secretary of the Labour Party boasted to Keir Starmer that she is using analysis from Hope Not Hate to profile Reform voters, despite that organisation previously labelling Nigel Farage’s party as “far right.” Hollie Ridley told a meeting of Labour’s ruling National Executive Committee last week (attended by the PM) that controversial campaign group Hope Not Hate was providing “valuable” analysis of Reform’s voter base. According to an account of her remarks published by another NEC member, Ridley told the meeting:

“Hope Not Hate were providing valuable analysis of Reform voters and the party was working closely with the unions. And with today’s 13-year-olds able to vote at the next general election I believe that schools have a key role in educating future citizens about our democratic structures.”

Hope Not Hate has extensively labelled Farage’s party “far right“: for example, it carries a page on its websiteReform UK are Far-Right: Here’s Why.” The organisation has said of Reform: “They are constructing a ruthless campaign machine to exploit frustration, divide communities, and push their far-right agenda into the mainstream. If we don’t act now, they could reshape British politics as we know it.Does the analysis to which Ridley referred similarly label Reform voters as ‘far right’?

Starmer has stopped short of using the term to describe Reform – he knows that to do so would not only be wrong but electorally toxic for him, given that Labour is bleeding voters to the new party. But, in private, his party’s most senior officials are using material from an organisation that calls Reform “far right”…

Responding, a Reform source said:

Hope Not Hate are a radical far left organisation who are pushing an extreme agenda. Clearly, looking at the polls, HnH are failing.

This one will stick…
