Lammy claimed today that “no final decision” had been made. According to the FT, the government has already made up its mind, and will scale back the reforms after an enormous backlash from judges and barristers. The new, diluted proposals will now limit bench trials to cases likely to receive a maximum sentence of three years. This was the proposal mooted by an independent review by Sir Brian Leveson.
