Leavitt appeared at Turning Point USA’s latest campus tour stop at George Washington University alongside Erika Kirk. The event marked part of the organization’s ongoing outreach effort to college students.
During the event, an unidentified student interrupted by shouting a question about voter fraud and election integrity.

The student argued that instances of voter fraud were “incredibly rare” and asked whether tightening voter eligibility laws for federal elections was justified if it would only address “a few hundred cases of voter fraud.”
The remark drew a mixed reaction from the audience, with both boos and cheers heard in response.
“No need to boo. It’s an honest question,” Leavitt said, addressing the crowd before responding directly to the student’s claim.
She expressed doubt about the data cited, referencing skepticism toward a survey associated with the Heritage Foundation.

“There is certainly much more, I believe, voter fraud in this country, and I’m sure those statistics back it up, than what you cited with one survey,” Leavitt said.
She then pressed the issue further, asking, “Why are you okay with any voter fraud in the United States of America?”
Leavitt continued her response by arguing that current election requirements in the United States fall short of basic standards. She described the lack of a nationwide voter identification requirement as “absolutely absurd.”
“This idea that the Save America Act would disenfranchise anyone is frankly insulting,” she said.
“It’s a common-sense piece of legislation, and Democrats would be wise to get on board with this, because the only people in the world, except for maybe this gentleman who asked the question, seem to be politicians in this city who don’t want voter ID and proof of citizenship in American elections,” Leavitt added.

The Save America Act remains a central legislative priority for Donald Trump. The bill passed the House of Representatives in February but has stalled in the Senate amid opposition from Democratic lawmakers.
Trump has publicly criticized Democrats for resisting the legislation, stating they “want to cheat” and warning that opposition to voter ID requirements could impact the balance of power in Congress ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
Leavitt’s exchange with the student highlighted ongoing divisions over election policy as the administration continues to push for federal standards requiring voter identification and proof of citizenship.
The confrontation also drew attention to the broader debate playing out on college campuses and in Washington over how election laws should be structured moving forward.
