More than two dozen protesters staged a demonstration outside the private residence of House Administration Committee Chairman Bryan Steil, R-Wis., last week, prompting concerns over escalating tactics targeting elected officials.
The group, clad in black and ringing cowbells, delivered a cardboard coffin and flowers to Steil’s front door in what they called the “Death of Democracy” procession.
The demonstration was organized by the Southern Wisconsin Grassroots Network and the Working Families Party.

Video footage posted to social media shows the group marching up the congressman’s private driveway, bypassing public sidewalks, and leaving the coffin—labeled with an epitaph—at the entrance to the home.

This Could Be the Most Important Video Gun Owners Watch All Year
Former Walworth County Democrat Party Chairwoman Ellen Holly was seen in the video walking with the group up to Steil’s front door.
She was joined by other individuals who had participated in previous protests against the congressman.
Prior to the demonstration, a speaker on a Facebook Live broadcast acknowledged the potential for police involvement and told attendees they would not linger.
“We’re not going to hang out here because we’re not going to invite the police to come and ask questions, and say, ‘What are you doing here, blah, blah, blah.’ We’re just going to get out of town,” the organizer said.
After the mock funeral procession concluded, participants walked across the front lawn and posed for photos.
One of the groups later posted an image of the cardboard coffin and epitaph on Facebook, where a user in the comments requested the lawmaker’s home address.
The incident has been reported to the U.S. Capitol Police. As of now, it is unclear whether any of the individuals involved will face charges in connection with the protest.
Congressman Steil issued a statement to Fox News Digital responding to the event.
“It’s disappointing that Democrat leadership and the radical left resort to these type of tactics,” Steil said.
“I remain committed to my work to get this country back on track and will not be deterred by their threats.”
Ravi Mangla, National Press Secretary for Working Families Power, defended the demonstration and criticized Steil’s voting record.
“17 million Americans are going to lose life-saving medical care because of Bryan Steil’s vote,” Mangla said in a statement to Fox News Digital.
“Frankly, that’s a far scarier thing than a group of seniors holding some taped together cardboard.”
The protest at Steil’s home occurred amid a sharp increase in threats made against members of Congress.
According to data from the U.S. Capitol Police, reported threats against lawmakers have risen by 93.8% compared to the previous year.
Steil, who chairs the House Administration Committee, is involved in ongoing efforts to bolster security for lawmakers and their staff.
In response to the rise in threats, Congress approved an increase in the Member Security Allotment, doubling it from $10,000 to $20,000 for life.
Additionally, the Monitoring and Maintenance Allotment was increased from $150 to $5,000 per month for fiscal year 2025.
Despite the recent incident, activist groups are continuing their campaign.
The same coalition that organized the mock funeral is encouraging protests at Steil’s upcoming in-person town hall, scheduled for Thursday.
On Facebook, organizers posted, “Good Trouble Lives ON!” ahead of the planned appearance.
The demonstration and its coordination are part of a broader trend involving left-wing advocacy groups and political operatives.
Several of the protest efforts are linked to dark money organizations and the Democratic Party of Wisconsin.
As congressional security concerns mount nationwide, incidents like the protest outside Congressman Steil’s residence are drawing increased scrutiny from both law enforcement and political observers.
