Leftist IVF Doctor Gushes Over Trump – The American Spectator | USA News and PoliticsThe American Spectator

Dr. Brian Levine is one of the nation’s foremost doctors on reproductive technologies such as IVF. He founded a fertility clinic in New York City that caters to the elite, provides commentary on the IVF industry for the New Yorker and CNN, and started a surrogacy business that promises women $50,000 to $90,000 in exchange for giving birth. His clinic advertises a special expertise in “LGBTQ+ family building,” and he says “gestational surrogacy” is among his specialties.

In fact, the reality is that the IVF industry is filled with abuses. It aggressively pushes its invasive treatments on women, even when there is no realistic expectation of pregnancy.

This week, Levine did something highly unusual for a man of his leftist political leanings: He publicly showered praise upon the Trump administration.

Speaking of the Trump administration’s executive order that promised to ensure affordable access to IVF, Levine said, “[I]t shows our government recognizes that building families strengthens the foundation of society, safeguards tomorrow, and ensures long-term stability.”

Levine then took his praise of Trump incredibly far — shockingly far for a world in which praise of Trump is unthinkable on the left.

“This is leadership in action,” said Levine, “and it deserves recognition.”

Evidently, the IVF industry is practically bursting with joy over President Donald Trump’s pledge of support. After all, where else do we see the Left applauding Trump’s “leadership in action”?

But look further into Levine’s essay, and he supplies the reason why the Trump administration should see this praise as a warning sign that it is doing something very, very wrong.

Levine writes that he believes the IVF industry is in grave need of “increased governmental oversight and more comprehensive regulations.” He warns of the “financial and medical exploitation” that will overtake the industry in the absence of such oversight.

If Levine — who profits handsomely from various aspects of the IVF industry — is ringing alarm bells over exploitation in the industry, you can bet that something is quite wrong.

In fact, the reality is that the IVF industry is filled with abuses. It aggressively pushes its invasive treatments on women, even when there is no realistic expectation of pregnancy, and then encourages those women to keep going, all while they milk them for profit. Clinics regularly hide the true cost of their treatments, which can stretch into the hundreds of thousands, until a couple is already hooked in. They also conceal how painful and dangerous egg-retrieval procedures can be. Not to be forgotten are the industry’s exploitation of surrogates and its eugenic practices.

IVF Industry’s Hidden Abuses

Of course, there is also the fact that the IVF industry takes having a baby, something proper to a family composed of a husband and a wife, and turns it into a bureaucratic and medicalized process of purchasing a child and then discarding — i.e. killing — the “extra” embryos.

Much of Levine’s essay discusses the CDC’s previous collection of data tracking the success rates of America’s fertility clinics, and his opposition to its discontinuance under the Trump administration.

This reporting process had often been criticized for how little information it actually gathered. For example, clinics were not required to report how many embryos they created, and so they would simply create dozens of embryos to maximize their success rates. Currently, hundreds of thousands, or even millions, of embryos — with unique genetic blueprints and composed of hundreds of cells — are frozen in the United States, showing the total lack of regard these clinics have for the human beings they are creating.

When a leftist rejoices, maybe stop to take a second look. It’s probably a sign that screaming is the right response.
