Musk tapped Yaccarino, a former advertising executive at NBCUniversal, as CEO in May 2023. She was the first permanent CEO of X after 2022, according to Axios.
Her tenure included overseeing the platform’s transition from Twitter into X and weathering storms of advertiser exoduses. (RELATED: The Advertising Industry Is Proving They Can’t Stand Free Speech)
She also presided over the research and development of XAI, the platform’s push into artificial intelligence. She touted her many accomplishments and teased the future of the AI platform in her farewell tweet.
“We started with the critical early work necessary to prioritize the safety of our users—especially children, and to restore advertiser confidence. This team has worked relentlessly from groundbreaking innovations like Community Notes, and, soon, X Money to bringing the most iconic voices and content to the platform,” she wrote.
“Now, the best is yet to come as X enters a new chapter with XAI,” she continued.
Some speculated about recent controversies surrounding X’s AI chatbot Grok in the wake of Yaccarino’s announcement.
“One has to wonder whether Grok’s freak out yesterday was the final straw,” Vanity Fair’s Natalie Korach tweeted.
