LSU’s Brian Kelly Fired After Heated Confrontation With Athletic Director Scott Woodward: REPORT

LSU has made the move to fire their head coach Brian Kelly.

Following the Tigers‘ blowout defeat against Texas A&M, LSU executives had a meeting Sunday to speak about the future of Kelly.

“LSU administrators and university executives have held and are holding high-level discussions over the future of football coach Brian Kelly, sources tell @YahooSport. While there is no immediate resolution, the conversations – which involve the state’s governor – are on-going,” reported Yahoo Sports’ and On3 Sports’ Ross Dellenger. “The situation in Baton Rouge is made complicated as the university is searching for a permanent president (the school announced five finalists). In its absence, Gov. Jeff Landry has become integral and is expected, if he hasn’t already, to meet with key donors and board members.”

Kelly and LSU athletic director Scott Woodward had a meeting, and things ended up getting heated between the two when they were discussing who on the staff needs to get fired.

More information was dished out from OutKick’s Trey Wallace regarding Kelly and Woodward’s meeting.

“When Brian Kelly arrived at the LSU facility on Sunday morning, he was going through a list of assistant coaches that could potentially be fired. That led to a meeting with Scott Woodward, where both sides presented a case as to who should be let go,” reported Wallace. “It was at that moment that the relationship took a turn. Kelly immediately left the facility after that meeting, which is when AD Scott Woodward informed assistant coaches that they should go home for the day.

Immediately after, Governor Jeff Landry was called, where discussions shifted towards the buyout, and if it were going to be a problem to expensive to overcome.”

Hours following the meeting, Pete Nakos from On3 then reported that Kelly had been fired by LSU.

Frank Wilson will be replacing Kelly as head coach, per Nakos.
