I was born into a Christian household in Cape Town, South Africa. I realise that I was blessed to have grown up in a family that showed me strong examples of what it means to live as a Christian. At the same time, I also realise that someone is not saved by simply being born into such a home.
Despite the influence of my family, I spent my youth living in a state of lukewarm religion. Knowing the Lord was not something I desired more of. I hardly read the Bible or prayed, and I rarely took an interest in hearing the Bible taught in church.
I bore none of the marks of a born-again believer as described in the Bible in Matthew 5: ‘Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.’
