She told Sky News’ Sam Coates:
“Well I’m the Home Secretary so that that is my job and my top priority is securing our borders. I will not be running for deputy leader of the Labour party.”
Mahmood stressed she was only three days into the job after excitable briefing over the weekend on the potential for a returns deal with Germany and the use of MoD sites as a replacement for asylum hotels. With the French government on the verge of collapse the one-in-one-out deal is in jeopardy…
She added she had “strong foundations to build on” from Yvette Cooper but that she wanted to go “further and faster.” Heard that one before…
