New York City (NYC) Democrat mayoral nominee Zohran “Commie” Mamdani called for seizing luxury homes during the COVID pandemic.
During the height of the pandemic in 2020, a report emerged that the first homeless NYC “resident” had died because of COVID.
“Tragically, one New Yorker experiencing homelessness succumbed to this virus after several days in the hospital – our hearts go out to this individual’s friends and family,” NYC Department of Social Services spokesperson Isaac McGinn told ABC News at the time.
In response to this news, Mamdani posted a tweet calling for the seizure of luxury homes to house the homeless:
The oligarchs who want us to return to work to goose the stock market are the same ones with thousands of luxury condos as investment properties, sitting empty while NYers die on the streets & in shelters.
Seize these properties.
House the homeless.
Enact a #HomesGuarantee. https://t.co/aKfr8BgIvJ

“The oligarchs who want us to return to work to goose the stock market are the same ones with thousands of luxury condos as investment properties, sitting empty while NYers die on the streets & in shelters,” he wrote.
“Seize these properties. House the homeless. Enact a #HomesGuarantee,” he added.
Despite statements like this, the left continues to proclaim that Mamdani isn’t a communist.
“New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani’s platform proposes free buses and day care, rent control, and city-owned grocery stores to make city living more affordable,” a recent PolitiFact report reads.
“Mamdani’s platform is not akin to communism, a system of government which calls for government takeover of private property and control of industry,” it continues.
But this is bull, especially when you factor in Mamdani’s other controversial statements.
For instance, consider what the Democrat NYC mayoral nominee said in the video below, published in 2021 by the radically left-wing Gravel Institute:

In the video, he called for turning housing from a private matter to a public one by buying up large swaths of housing and then transforming them into veritable communist communes.
“If we want to end the housing crisis, the solution has to be moving toward the full de-commodification of housing,” he said. “In other words, moving away from the status quo in which most people access housing by purchasing it on the market and toward a future where we guarantee high-quality housing to all as a human right.”
There’s also another 2021 video, this one from a virtual Youth Democratic Socialists of America meeting, during which Mamdani explicitly talked about seizing the “means of production.”
“At one point, Mamdani went so far as to state that ‘seizing the means of production’ was the ‘end goal,’ evoking Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin, both of whom famously spoke of socialism being merely a transitional phase to be used in achieving the true end goal of communism,” the Jewish News Syndicate notes.
Despite all this, even HE claims he’s not a communist.
“No, I am not [a communist],” he recently told NBC News’ Kristen Welker. “I have already had to start to get used to the fact that the president will talk about how I look, how I sound, where I’m from, who I am, ultimately, because he wants to distract from what I’m fighting for. And I’m fighting for the very working people that he ran a campaign to empower, that he has since then betrayed.”
“When we talk about my politics, you know, I call myself a Democratic socialist — in many ways, inspired by the words of Dr. [Martin Luther] King from decades ago, who said, ‘Call it democracy, call it Democratic-Socialism, there has to be a better distribution of wealth for all of God’s children in this country,” he added.
Listen:
WELKER: Trump called you a communist. Are you a communist?
MAMDANI: I am not and I already have to get used to the fact that the president is going to talk about how I look, how I sound, where I am from and who I am—I’m fighting for the very working people that he ran a campaign… pic.twitter.com/MjNDOaNEIf

He and his adoring sycophants may not recognize who he truly is, but former Democrat turned Independent incumbent NYC Mayor Eric Adams certainly does.
Look what Adams wrote on X this Monday in response to an old Mamdani tweet in which the so-called “Democratic Socialist” literally touted communism:
