Mamdani Mayoral Win Would Be ‘Wake-Up Call’ for Nation, Urges GOP To Counter Socialist Wave [WATCH]

Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy issued a warning Monday about the growing influence of far-left politicians in American cities, pointing specifically to New York City mayoral hopeful Zohran Mamdani, as reported by the New York Post.

During an appearance on Fox & Friends, Ramaswamy said Mamdani’s campaign reflects a broader national shift within the Democratic Party toward socialism.

Former republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy speaks during a town hall, Thursday, Sept. 19, 2024, at Bushnell Events Center in Springfield. Ramaswamy held a town hall to discuss the nation’s immigration debate and other political topics.

“It’s a fork in the road for the future of the country,” Ramaswamy said. “And it’s not just about one candidate in New York who represents the socialism wing. You look at the rise of [Omar] Fateh in Minneapolis.”

Fateh, a Somali American and state senator, is currently running for mayor of Minneapolis.

Ramaswamy, who previously ran for president and is now seeking to lead Ohio, cited Mamdani and Fateh as examples of what he described as a deepening division within the Democratic Party.

“You see trends coming up across the country. There’s a deep fissure in the Democratic Party,” he said.

The 39-year-old biotech entrepreneur emphasized that Republicans have an opportunity to counter the socialist messaging and provide a clear alternative to voters across the country.

“My advice to Republicans across the country is this is our chance to actually offer the vision to make the case for why free enterprise, why capitalism, is the best system known to the history of man,” Ramaswamy said.

He warned that if Mamdani wins the race to become mayor of New York City, the consequences could be felt not just in the city, but across the nation.

“I do think a lot of people in New York are going to, unfortunately, wake up to the effects of socialism.”

Ramaswamy pointed to housing policy as one of the major areas where left-wing ideas could backfire.

“The well-intentioned so-called solutions to a housing crisis are actually going to make that very affordable crisis worse for the people they were supposedly trying to help,” he explained.

He concluded by emphasizing the importance of conservative leadership at the state and local level. “I don’t want to see that play out over the next 10 years. I think Republicans have an important role to play.”

Mamdani, currently serving in the New York State Assembly, has been endorsed by the Democratic Socialists of America. His campaign has focused on progressive policies, including rent control expansions and public housing reforms.
