America’s elite have begun their attempt at Zohran Mamdani’s makeover. The establishment media is doing it with “second-look” headlines. Congressional Democrat leaders are doing it by meeting with him in Washington. America’s elite are once again trying to turn extreme into mainstream and radical into reasonable.

Democratic New York City mayoral nominee Zohran Mamdani has many inane policies. He promises government-run grocery stores, building government housing and freezing rents, and taxing “richer and whiter” neighborhoods more. He is, after all, a self-proclaimed democratic socialist.

However, Mamdani also has one position that’s beyond the pale of civilized discourse. He refuses to denounce “globalize the intifada” and those who embrace it.

For those who have forgotten, the intifada was two bloody Palestinian uprisings against Israel: one was in the late 1980s; the other and more violent began in 2000. Both were violent; the latter included “the Passover massacre” a suicide bombing that killed 30 civilians at a Netanya hotel.

Reprehensible as the means the intifada employed were, “globalizing” it takes it to another level of grotesque. Taking it beyond Israel — i.e., globally — means no longer even maintaining the semblance that such attacks are aimed at the state of Israel. It means taking aim at Jews, anywhere and everywhere. “Globalize the intifada” is simple antisemitism. Violent antisemitism.

Zohran Mamdani refused to denounce “globalize the intifada” throughout New York City’s Democratic mayoral primary. To not denounce is to at least tacitly embrace. Mamdani’s stubborn stupidity is in desperate need of an emergency makeover. On cue, America’s elite ride to the rescue.

The establishment media has already begun their process by giving him a chance to “clarify” his position. Now he promises he won’t use the phrase himself. That there is nothing to “clarify” — but everything to condemn — is skipped over.

Congressional Democrats are doing their part by meeting with someone who should be ostracized. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a fellow democratic socialist, brought Mamdani to Washington to introduce someone who needs no introduction. Of course, there should be no meeting regardless, but certainly not until Mamdani has denounced “globalize the intifada” and those who proclaim it.

This elitist airbrushing looks all too familiar. America has endured such gaslighting repeatedly at the hands of the elite over the last few years.

There was the blatant coverup of President Joe Biden’s incapacity for at least four years. An incapacity that the elite now cannot confess fast or often enough in a delusional effort to salvage some credibility with a public who saw Biden’s failings.

The same sleight of hand was then tried on Kamala Harris’s behalf. The elite swore to us that she had never been the “border czar.” Skipped over was her failings as VP. Forgotten was that she had been the DA in San Francisco and the state’s AG when California passed its soft-on-shoplifting law (and on which Harris amazingly took no position) that caused crime to soar. Denied was that she had supported taxpayer-funded transgender surgeries for prison inmates. Instead, Harris got a favorably edited 60 Minutes interview from CBS.

Just this weekend, we have heard accusations about the involvement of top members of the Obama administration, including President Obama, in the Russia hoax that was pursued for years against President Trump.

No matter. Now the elite are on to their next attempted reclamation project: Mamdani.

If a Republican had said anything remotely equivalent to what Mamdani has said, and if Republican leaders had met with him without conditions, America’s elite would be up in arms. No other message would be allowed out. Condemnation would be prologue, predicate, and postscript to any and every story.

Yet for Mamdani there is a do-over; there are no calls for Democrat leaders to denounce him. Instead of being driven out, Mamdani is being driven in… to the mainstream.

America’s elite are not just trying to rehab Mamdani, or even to just absolve feckless Democrat leaders. America’s elite are trying to recast the entire Democrat Party. They are because Mamdani and his kind are who the Democrats are becoming. This is who they are embracing.

And Democrats won’t stop because they can’t stop. The people who voted for Mamdani to be their mayoral nominee are the people who vote for them too. Or they are the people Democrats fear will not vote for them — as Senator Schumer fears in a contest against AOC and as Nancy Pelosi fears in a contest against a former AOC staffer. Many more Democrats fear being primaried by DNC leader David Hogg.

Democrats are now majority liberal. Over three-quarters would support a socialist as the party’s presidential nominee. Without these increasingly radical elements, Democrats no longer have a party. Unable to live without them, they must live with them — and gaslight Americans into feeling they could too.

America’s elite are trying to save the party that they have reshaped in their own image from being seen for what it is… and who they are.
