Man saves boy walking along a monorail track by himself at Hersheypark

Theme park visitors were shocked to see a young child walking along an elevated track as bystanders tried to coach him to safety.

Video of the young boy, who was reported missing Saturday after becoming separated from his parents at the Hersheypark Theme Park in Hershey, PA, went viral on social media. The heart-stopping video showed as the child walked along the park’s elevated monorail track, while many feet below him, parkgoers watched in horror and tried to direct him.

Eventually, one person climbed up the Capital BlueCross Monorail to rescue the boy, to the relief of all the witnesses.

“While our team was actively searching, the child entered a secured area for the Monorail, which was not in operation,” a spokesperson for Hershey Entertainment & Resorts said in a statement, explaining that the boy had been reported missing just after 5 p.m. ET Saturday.

The ride “was closed and safeguarded by a chained closure at the entrance and barricaded turnstile at the platform,” the spokesperson added. “The child remained at the closed station for about 20 minutes before briefly walking along the track. A guest quickly noticed and helped guide the child to safety.”

The child could be seen in the video walking along the track as people below yelled for him to stop, and others directed him to “keep going,” likely heading to safety towards a structure. At one point, the boy seemed confused and turned to head back in the opposite direction.

Eventually, one man clambered up to the top of the building alongside the track and motioned for the boy to come toward him. When that did not get a fast enough response, the good Samaritan hoisted himself up to the track and was seen picking the boy up in his arms, as the crowd below cheered.

“Our team members immediately responded after he was spotted on the tracks, and at approximately 5:28 p.m., the child was safely reunited with his family. He was unharmed,” the park’s statement said.

“We are grateful for the vigilance of our guests and the swift response of our team, and we remain committed to maintaining the highest levels of guest safety throughout Hersheypark,” the statement added.

Viral video of the incident sparked a wave of reactions on X.
