Following a deadly mass shooting in Manhattan, Newsmax host Carl Higbie used his broadcast to highlight the consequences of strict gun control policies, criticizing deep-blue cities for disarming law-abiding citizens while doing little to deter violent criminals.
“So by now, you’ve probably heard that just after the show went off air last night, there was a mass shooting two blocks from where I’m sitting right now,” Higbie said during the segment.
“A guy walked through an open street carrying an AR-15 right in front of a building, and just started opening fire when he walked in, killed a police officer and one other person. Then he went up to another floor, shot a few more people, killed two of them.”

Higbie emphasized that no armed civilians were present to respond before law enforcement arrived.
“There was not a single person there to shoot back until the cops got on scene. Not one armed citizen was there to defend themselves or others, because the shooter took out the only threat he saw first, which was a cop.”
“Welcome to Manhattan,” Higbie continued.
“Where they’ve adopted this notion that wolves have teeth and they conduct violence. So in order to stop violence, the Shepherd has opted to ban teeth from all that he controls, and then he forcefully removes all the teeth from the sheep and the sheep dogs. But he has no control over the wolves, and the wolves still keep their teeth.”

Higbie argued that gun control laws do not stop criminals from obtaining firearms and instead leave law-abiding citizens defenseless.
“Laws don’t stop that. Murder also happens to be illegal, but they don’t care about those laws either,” he said.
Higbie backed his statements with data, pointing out that the United States has over 400 million firearms—more than 120 guns per 100 people—yet does not rank among the world’s most dangerous countries by murder rate.
“More lawfully armed citizens means less crime period, full stop everywhere it’s imposed,” Higbie said.
“America is the gun capital of the world period with over 400 million firearms. America has more than 120 firearms per 100 people. That’s more than a gun per person. Good. I think those are rookie numbers, and we should bump those up.”
He contrasted the U.S. with countries that have high murder rates and low civilian gun ownership.
“The number two country in the world is Yemen, with only 52 firearms per 100 people, that’s less than half of what we have here.”
Regular Newsmax contributor Bill Whittle echoed the argument.
“A quick search for the per capita murder rate. And sure enough, leading the number two country again by about half again more, with 90 murders per 100,000 people, is Honduras,” Whittle said.
“And unfortunately for the progressive leftist argument, we’re not second either or third. In fact, when it comes to per capita murders, Team USA didn’t even make the top five. As a matter of fact, we didn’t even make the top 10 or the top 20 or the top 30 or the top 40.”
Higbie added that most of the U.S. murder rate is driven by Democrat-controlled cities with strict gun laws.
“The average murder rate for the entire country, according to the FBI, was 6.3 per 100,000 last year. However, if you remove Democrat controlled anti gun cities like St Louis, Missouri, with nearly 70 murders per 100,000 residents… Newark, New Jersey… more than four times the national average. This goes on. Chicago. Cincinnati. Philadelphia. Milwaukee. All Democrat run cities with anti gun policy.”
He then pointed to states with the most lenient gun laws, such as Vermont, Maine, and New Hampshire, all of which rank among the lowest in the nation for per capita murders.
“Montana, the number one gun ownership state in the union, eight times more guns than Democrat socially controlled New Jersey, yet they have virtually the same murder rate per capita.”
CNN’s Erin Burnett, reporting on the Manhattan shooting, described the suspect as “male, possibly white mustache, sunglasses in that building, isolated to, they believe, to various locations, including upper floors.”
Higbie pushed back, accusing CNN of mischaracterizing the suspect’s appearance to fit a political narrative.
“For the simple sake of division and narrative, does this guy look white to you? That’s the shooter,” Higbie said.
“Where did you get that information, Erin, and why did it matter?”
“This is about keeping and forming a narrative,” Higbie continued. He criticized CNN and other mainstream outlets for past reporting errors and bias, referencing the network’s coverage of high-profile incidents.
“They call MS-13 member a Maryland dad. When Trump was shot in the ear, they said, ‘Oh, it appears to have fallen on stage.’ That Biden was sharp as a tack. That this Congress man right there is a woman.”
He concluded the segment by rejecting claims that guns are to blame and called for a cultural shift instead.
“He used a gun this time, but the Boston bomber used a pressure cooker. The guy in New Orleans used the truck… We just had a mass stabbing overseas. It’s because of our culture where we’ve pushed a lack of values and respect.”
Higbie tied the violence to broader failures by progressive leadership.
“The modern left wants unvetted immigration, no matter how many American citizens get murdered, raped or poisoned with drugs. They want to abolish prisons. Many want to defund the police.”
He ended with a reminder of his legal efforts to restore gun rights.
“This is why I sued the state of New York to have the right to carry a firearm. Stay strapped. America might need it, especially in this city, if Mamdani wins.”
