Medical Examiner Confirms the Cause of Death of Mitt Romney’s Sister-in-Law [WATCH]

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner confirmed Tuesday that Carrie Romney, the sister-in-law of former presidential candidate Mitt Romney, died by suicide after suffering “blunt traumatic injuries.”

Police Activity at Cape Canaveral Hospital Saturday night. The Cocoa Beach Police Department was on scene at the hospital investigating a suspicious incident. Also on scene was a heavy presence of BCSO. Fire trucks and ambulances were staged near the hospital on 520.

Her death occurred on Oct. 10, when she was found at the base of a five-story parking garage in Valencia, California, as reported by The New York Post.

Romney, 64, had been married to George Scott Romney, 81, Mitt Romney’s older brother. The couple had been involved in a contentious divorce for several months prior to her death.

Court filings show the pair separated in May and each sought to prevent the other from securing assets in the legal proceedings.

They had been married for eight years before filing for divorce over stated “irreconcilable differences.”

Public records indicate the couple had shared a $725,000 condominium in Valencia, though it is not known whether they were still living together at the time of the incident.

In earlier filings, George Romney argued against providing spousal support and stated the couple held no joint property.

The parking garage where Carrie Romney died is connected to an upscale apartment complex in the area. Authorities did not report any signs of foul play.

The medical examiner’s ruling closes weeks of speculation surrounding the cause and circumstances of her death.

No additional public statements have been released by the Romney family regarding the incident.
