UPDATE: Sherrone Moore, the former head coach of the Michigan Wolverines football program, has been detained by police, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel and Dan Wetzel.
“The City of Saline Police Department assisted in locating and detaining former University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore. Mr. Moore was turned over to the Pittsfield Township Police Department for investigation into potential charges,” read a statement from a Saline, Michigan city manager, per ESPN.
Michigan has terminated head football coach Sherrone Moore for cause following his second season with the program. Athletic Director Warde Manuel announced Wednesday that the firing stemmed from Moore’s alleged inappropriate relationship with a member of the staff.
“Sherrone Moore has been terminated, with cause, effective immediately,” said Manuel in an official statement, per CBS Sports. “Following a university investigation, credible evidence was found that Coach Moore engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. This conduct constitutes a clear violation of University policy, and UM maintains zero tolerance for such behavior.” (RELATED: ‘It Has Been Egregious’: Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark Calls Out Notre Dame For Crybabies That They Are)
Associate head coach Biff Poggi has been named interim head coach, effective immediately. Moore was owed a buyout of approximately $14 million, but the for cause termination is expected to relieve Michigan of nearly the entire obligation.

Sources tell CBS Sports that after allegations against Moore surfaced, several prominent Michigan donors pulled back on planned contributions to the football program.
Recently, as rumors spread throughout college football that Michigan launched an investigation into Moore, staff members inside the program had grown increasingly anxious about their job security.
“It’s hard to ignore,” said a staffer while speaking Wednesday to CBS Sports.
Sources tell CBS Sports that Manuel told program staffers that some part of the investigation into Moore, which had been an open secret inside the building, had been underway since mid-November.
