Mobs Slash Tires, Ram Federal Vehicles During ICE Ops [WATCH]

Federal immigration enforcement operations in Bell and Maywood, California, escalated into violent confrontations Friday as large crowds clashed with U.S. Border Patrol agents.

The Department of Homeland Security confirmed that several federal vehicles were damaged and at least one suspect was taken into custody during the unrest.

According to a statement released by DHS, two Border Patrol vehicles were targeted during lawful enforcement operations in both cities.

One vehicle was rammed on Atlantic Boulevard and had its tires slashed. A second vehicle, located on Slauson Avenue, was struck by a civilian vehicle and totaled.

The individual responsible for that incident was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault after a crowd formed and slashed the tires of other federal vehicles.

“Today in Bell and Maywood, CA, Border Patrol vehicles were violently targeted during lawful operations,” DHS said in its official statement.

“On Atlantic Blvd, one vehicle was rammed and had its tires slashed. On Slauson Ave, a civilian struck a federal vehicle, totaling it. The driver was arrested for suspicion of vehicular assault as a mob formed and slashed additional tires. LAPD, LAFD, OFO teams, and Border Patrol Special Operations responded and restored order. One suspect is in custody and will be presented to U.S. Attorney’s Office for criminal prosecution.”

The statement continued, emphasizing the agency’s stance against violence toward federal law enforcement.

“Federal law enforcement is facing an ever-escalating increase in assaults—but we will not be deterred. Secretary Noem’s message is clear: If you assault a federal officer, you will be prosecuted. CBP and our partners will continue to enforce the law—relentless and unapologetic.”

Aerial footage captured by KABC-TV’s AIR7 helicopter showed the moments when agents deployed what appeared to be tear gas or smoke munitions on a crowd of demonstrators in Maywood.

The video showed protesters dispersing in chaos, with some yelling and one individual kicking a canister back toward federal agents.

Multiple SUVs believed to be operated by federal agents were shown stopped on Slauson Avenue near Alamo Avenue, about a block from where the chemical agents were deployed.

Earlier in the day, a protest had formed on Atlantic Avenue in the City of Bell following an immigration enforcement action.

AIR7 footage showed a group of approximately 100 individuals gathering in the area.

The video captured people throwing rocks and bottles at vehicles believed to be transporting federal agents.

A compilation video released by L.A. Taco showed scenes from both Bell and Maywood, including confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement.

“It was tense in Maywood and Bell as ICE/CBP and multiple local police agencies confronted protesters and local residents vocalizing their anger at ICE/CBP violently arresting individuals and a protester,” the outlet wrote.

The compilation also showed an unmarked federal vehicle reportedly traveling in the wrong direction on a street, narrowly missing several pedestrians.

Among those allegedly nearly struck was the Mayor of Cudahy, who stated on social media that she had been present during the incident.

Local police departments, including the Los Angeles Police Department and other emergency services, responded to assist federal agents during the disturbances.

The Department of Homeland Security has not released the identity of the individual arrested but confirmed they would be referred to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for criminal prosecution.

DHS said the investigation into the attacks on federal vehicles and potential assaults on federal personnel is ongoing.
