The Ministry of Defence has been in the firing line after a data leak lead to thousands of Afghans secretly being relocated to the UK  – costing the taxpayer billions. They’ve also spent millions of cash on translation services…

In the financial year 2024 to 2025, the MoD spent £27,596,855 on translating and interpretation services to support operational activity overseas and in the UK, according to a written Parliamentary question by Rupert Lowe. Guido did ask the department how much of that was spent on the Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy. They haven’t responded…

For £27.5 million, you could:

  • Hire 1,048 British Army privates.
  • Fund 1,839 enforced removals.
  • Buy 1,533,158 24-hour army ration packs.

The taxpayer may have a view on which should be prioritised. UK DOGE recommends costs are cut here…
