Hoover Institution Senior Fellow Victor Davis Hanson appeared on Fox Business Thursday to condemn what he called a morally inverted response to a recent antisemitic attack.
The attack was carried out by an illegal immigrant from Egypt.
Federal officials arrested Mohamed Sabry Soliman, an illegal migrant who overstayed his visa under the Biden administration, for allegedly using a flamethrower and Molotov cocktails in a terrorist attack on a pro-Israel demonstration in Boulder, Colo. During an appearance on “The Bottom Line,” Hanson said the case reveals how progressive frameworks like Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) selectively shape public outrage.
“There is a DEI element to it because if the perpetrator did not qualify under this expansive DEI vocabulary and the target was not Jewish, I don’t think there would be the same reaction among a lot of people,” Hanson said. “I think there would be a lot more outrage if the roles were reversed. If he had been a Muslim immigrant and a so-called white male had done this, I think there would have been universal condemnation, and they would have deported the whole family.”
Hanson blasted the defense attorney for the accused arsonist — who reportedly targeted Jews during a pro-Israel demonstration — after the lawyer drew a comparison between Trump-era immigration policies and Nazi Germany.

“That was tragically ironic because there was a history of burning Jews, but it was the people, like this person, who did it in Germany, and the people in America tried to stop it,” Hanson said. “So they’ve got their moral compass upside down. And then, of course, they always leave out of the story that the family was overstaying a visa. They were here illegally, and there’ll be an investigation.”
Hanson noted the attacker’s family had overstayed a visa and was residing in the U.S. illegally, a detail frequently omitted from mainstream reports. He predicted deportation could be on the table if authorities uncover evidence that the family knew about the suspect’s extremist intentions. “If they believe that they had no idea in the close quarters of a home what their father was doing when he openly said that his act of violence against Jews was timed to the graduation of his own daughter, then that will come out,” Hanson said. “But if the investigation says they have information, I think that that could well happen. I think they’ll be deported.”
Biden-appointed Judge Gordon Gallagher blocked the Trump administration on Wednesday from deporting the family of Colorado terror suspect Soliman, vacating the removal order. Immigration authorities took Soliman’s wife and five children into custody on Tuesday, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem announced on X.
