Morrissey Cancels Concert Due To Feeling Sleepy, Lets Down Fans

The English singer Morrissey is facing widespread backlash for canceling on fans because he didn’t get a good night’s sleep.

The famous artist cancelled Thursday’s concert performance in Valencia, Spain, citing the city’s noise level was too overwhelming for him, according to the official blog Morrisey Central. He wasn’t able to take in the amount of sleep he needed in order to perform, the statement continued. The former frontman for The Smiths has been known for canceling his solo gigs, but this unusual reason was enough to put fans over the edge.

WeHeartM reported that the star has reportedly canceled at least 408 shows, but his reputation for letting fans down didn’t lessen the blow for ticketholders in Valencia.

The Manchester rocker updated fans on his blog.

“Tonight’s scheduled show in Valencia has been rendered impossible due to sleep deprivation,” one of several messages read.

“Morrissey drove from Milan to Valencia but has been unable to rest in Valencia due to noise.”

In a previous update titled “Mental in Valencia,” the blog said, “Having travelled for two days by road, Morrissey reached the hotel in Valencia late on Wednesday. Any form of sleep or rest throughout the night was impossible due to festival noise / loud techno singing / megaphone announcements.”

The message continued, “This experience has left Morrissey in a catatonic state.”

“Before leaving for tonight’s scheduled concert, please check that the show remains possible under these circumstances.”

Morrissey described his hotel on Plaza Manises as “indescribable hell,” according to his blog, telling fans, “It will take me one year to recover. And that is an understatement.”

Fans took to social media to express their outrage and overall disappointment in the reason behind the cancelation.

“Why do you make tours if you already a grandpa 😂😂 better stay home and stop scamming people,” one person wrote on the star’s Instagram page.

“I don’t run to buy tickets anymore 😢” another fan said.

Others seemingly frustrated by the history of cancelations expressed their disappointment.

Another internet user said, “He needs one year to recover from having a bad night… What a joke… 😂😂😂😂😂 He probably took too much of something and that is what kept him up all night!”

Morrissey hasn’t responded to the backlash.
