Mother Says Teen Son Adored Girlfriend Who Had A Role In His Murder [WATCH]

The mother of a slain South Carolina teenager says her son was deeply infatuated with his 17-year-old girlfriend, who is now accused of playing a role in a deadly confrontation that left him shot to death, as reported by The New York Post.

Ashley Lindsey said her 16-year-old son, Trey Wright, was “head over heels” for Gianna Kistenmacher, a high school cheerleader and daughter of a Horry County police officer.

Just two days before he was killed, Wright told his mother that being with Kistenmacher felt “like a dream come true.”

Authorities say that dream ended on June 24, when Wright was lured into a confrontation in Johnsonville, South Carolina. According to investigators, Kistenmacher drove one of two cars packed with teenagers to the scene.

The second vehicle carried 19-year-old Devin Raper, who is accused of shooting Wright multiple times during the altercation.

Lindsey said her son had believed he was going to engage in a bare-knuckle fight with Raper. “He really liked her, but he might have been clueless to whatever else was going on,” she told the Daily Mail.

Friends say the chain of events began when Kistenmacher accused Wright of cheating on her.

Witnesses reported that during a FaceTime argument, Raper pointed a gun at Kistenmacher’s phone as a gesture toward Wright. Despite the threat, Wright and others thought the confrontation would be limited to a fistfight.

Ethan Kirby, 18, a friend of Wright’s, said he believed the dispute was never meant to escalate to deadly violence. “I believe she just wanted them to fight, not for it to end this way,” Kirby said. “It was all a childish act that turned real.”

When the two sides met in Johnsonville, Raper allegedly opened fire. Wright was struck several times and left on the street as the group, including Kistenmacher, fled the scene. The encounter was recorded by one of the teenagers present.

Lindsey expressed outrage that a teenage dispute over a relationship ended in murder.

“How do you go from sh*t talking to killing somebody? When I was growing up, if kids had a problem, they’d meet on a dirt road, fight with their hands, and go home. You didn’t pick up a gun. None of this makes sense.”

Kirby suggested peer pressure may have driven the shooting. “Devan was talking tough from the beach,” he said. “But when they drove an hour to fight, Devan realized Trey wasn’t backing down.”

Investigators said a total of 10 teens were taken into custody in connection with the killing. Raper has been charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime and is being held without bond.

Kistenmacher has been charged with accessory before the fact of a felony and was released into her family’s custody last week, according to ABC 4.

The case remains under investigation, with prosecutors preparing to move forward against all parties involved in the deadly ambush.
