MSNBC Hosts Baffled as Americans Cheer Army, Wave Flags, Take Selfies [WATCH]

MSNBC’s coverage of the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary over the weekend focused less on the milestone itself and more on the network’s apparent surprise that the event was well-attended, peaceful, and patriotic.

The celebration, which coincided with President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday on Saturday, brought thousands of people to the National Mall to honor America’s oldest military branch.

During a live segment on MSNBC, anchor Ali Velshi remarked on the positive and relaxed atmosphere of the parade and surrounding festivities.

“This is a very different mood here,” Velshi said.

“People seem to be going out of their way to say that they’re here to celebrate the Army’s 250th birthday.”

Velshi added, “I’m just surprised at the number of the people at the front of the parade who were watching, cheering and then would come and ask to take a selfie.”

He noted that the tone of the event differed significantly from what he characterized as typical Trump events, which he said are often “tense.”

“It’s not dark, it’s not tense, it’s not amped up… it’s different,” Velshi concluded.

The parade marked a major milestone for the U.S. Army, established on June 14, 1775.

The celebration included a ceremonial parade, military band performances, and tributes to current and former service members.

The event also acknowledged President Trump’s birthday, drawing large crowds of supporters to the capital for both commemorations.

Spectators lined the streets waving American flags, applauding servicemembers, and taking part in public displays of support for the military.

Organizers said the event was intended to honor the legacy and ongoing service of the men and women of the U.S. Army, as well as highlight the institution’s contributions to national defense throughout the country’s history.

Despite the festive atmosphere, MSNBC’s coverage appeared to focus more on the unexpected tone of the crowd rather than the historical context of the day.

The network’s surprise over the celebratory nature of the event stood in contrast to how it typically characterizes public gatherings associated with President Trump or the military.

The Army’s birthday celebration took place amid continued protests organized by left-wing groups under the “No Kings” banner.

Demonstrators in various cities, including Washington, D.C., held events criticizing Trump’s immigration policies and the use of federal law enforcement in recent operations tied to ICE and DHS.

However, there were no major disruptions reported at the Army parade itself.

As the celebrations continued into the evening, with fireworks and musical performances near the Capitol, the crowd remained peaceful.

Public safety officials reported no major incidents related to the event.

The U.S. Army is the oldest branch of the American armed forces and has served in every major conflict in the nation’s history.

The 250th anniversary marks a significant moment in recognizing the contributions and sacrifices made by millions of American soldiers since the Army’s founding in 1775.
