An Egyptian national accused of carrying out a violent attack on a Jewish gathering in Boulder, Colorado, was confirmed to be in the United States illegally after overstaying a visa granted in 2022.
The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Mohamad Soliman, was taken into custody at the scene Sunday afternoon following reports of multiple individuals being injured by Molotov cocktails and other incendiary devices.
The incident occurred near the intersection of 13th Street and Pearl Street in downtown Boulder.

Local authorities responded quickly and secured the area while paramedics treated the injured. Police advised the public to avoid the area during the emergency response.
Several people, including children, were hospitalized following the attack.
Boulder Police have not released specific information regarding the total number of victims or the severity of their injuries, but the FBI confirmed that the attack is being investigated as a case of ideologically motivated violence.

According to federal records reported by FOX News correspondent Bill Melugin, Soliman entered the United States in 2022 during the Biden-Harris administration.
He arrived on a tourist visa but did not leave the country when his authorized stay expired. Despite overstaying his visa, Soliman later obtained a work permit in March 2023 through a federal process.

Soliman allegedly launched the attack on members of the grassroots group âRun for Their Lives,â which hosts public demonstrations in support of Israeli hostages held by Hamas.
Witnesses reported hearing the suspect shout phrases such as âPalestine is freeâ during the incident.
Following his arrest, Soliman was transported to a nearby medical facility for minor injuries and then booked into the Boulder County Jail.
He remains in custody as both local and federal officials review possible charges, including attempted murder and use of explosive devices.
The attack comes amid heightened security concerns around pro-Israel events across the country.
Two weeks prior to the Boulder incident, a young couple was killed outside the Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., in a separate attack believed to be motivated by similar anti-Israel sentiments.
That case is still under investigation.
In the aftermath of the Boulder attack, some media outlets faced criticism over initial reporting that described the suspect as a âwhite male.â
Despite law enforcement identifying Soliman as a Muslim man from Egypt, MSNBC and other outlets used the term âwhite maleâ in early news alerts.

The discrepancy has prompted questions about the standards used for suspect descriptions in breaking news coverage.
Officials with the Department of Homeland Security have not yet commented on how Soliman was able to remain in the country after his visa expired or how he was granted a work permit.
The State Department has also not issued a public statement regarding the incident.
The FBI has taken the lead in the investigation and is working alongside Boulder Police and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The agency said it would continue reviewing Solimanâs background and immigration status as part of the case.
As of Monday morning, Soliman had not been formally charged in federal court, but law enforcement officials confirmed that a joint federal and state investigation is underway.
Prosecutors are expected to provide additional details later this week.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether Soliman acted alone or had any known affiliations with extremist groups. The investigation remains ongoing.
