Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., said former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was “unhinged” during part of her closed-door testimony before the House Oversight Committee on Thursday, setting off a dispute with Democrats over how the deposition unfolded, as reported by Fox News.
Mace told reporters Friday morning that Clinton reacted strongly when pressed with questions during the session.
“I asked her a very pointed question, and you’ll see that in the transcript and the video that comes out, and you’ll see how she responded as well, screaming,” Mace said.

When asked to elaborate on her comments, Mace repeated her description of Clinton’s demeanor.
“I hope that President Clinton is less unhinged today than his wife was yesterday. You’ll see it,” she told reporters.
Democrats on the committee pushed back on Mace’s account shortly afterward. Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif., the top Democrat on the Oversight Committee, disputed the claim that Clinton had been yelling during the deposition.

“I hope that the Republicans release the actual video unedited immediately, because to say that the secretary was screaming, I think, is beyond mischaracterization,” Garcia said.
Garcia added that House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., should make the full, unedited video available “right now.”
Mace later issued a statement to media outlets on Friday morning, doubling down on her description of the deposition.

“Yesterday’s deposition with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will be public soon, and you are not going to want to miss it,” Mace said.
“We asked very pointed questions and got three rounds with her. She was screaming. Unhinged and combative every time we brought up Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell. Not exactly the reaction you’d expect from someone claiming she ‘barely knew them.’”
Mace also referenced the appearance of former President Bill Clinton, who was scheduled to testify before the same committee.
“Today, former President Bill Clinton sits down with the Oversight Committee. We have just as many questions for him, maybe more. Let’s see if he can keep it together better than his wife did,” she said.
According to CNN, Hillary Clinton’s spokesman Nick Merrill disputed Mace’s characterization of the exchange.
“Was she appalled that Congresswoman Mace wouldn’t let her answer a question about her work as a senator after the murder of 3,000 Americans on 9/11? Absolutely,” Merrill added, the outlet reported.
Fox News Digital reached out to Merrill for additional comment but did not immediately receive a response.
It was not immediately clear what specific topics Mace raised during her three rounds of questioning.
Clinton’s testimony came one day before former President Bill Clinton was set to appear before the Oversight Committee for his own deposition.
During her testimony, Hillary Clinton told lawmakers that she could not recall ever meeting Jeffrey Epstein. She also said she only knew Epstein’s accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell, as an “acquaintance.”
The dispute over Clinton’s demeanor during the deposition is expected to continue as lawmakers press for the release of video and transcripts from the closed-door session.
