Just when you thought Giannis was staying in Milwaukee … nope.
According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, speaking Wednesday on “NBA Countdown,” teams in the league are increasingly anticipating a “divorce” between the Milwaukee Bucks and their superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo.
“It’s almost like a couple that everybody in the league thinks is going to get divorced. They don’t know if they are going to get divorced by Easter or if they are going to get divorced by July 4, but in the league, the teams do believe this is gonna be a divorce,” said Windhorst. “I know what Giannis is on the record as saying. I know what Doc is on the record as saying. The Bucks to my knowledge are still not taking phone calls on Giannis, they’re only making outgoing calls. Having said that, I can just tell you that teams are poised thinking this could end up being a separation at some point.”
In his 13th NBA season, the 31-year-old is putting up impressive numbers, averaging 28.5 points per game while shooting an efficient 64.5% from the field, along with 9.8 rebounds and 5.5 assists.
You guys already know how I feel, I want Giannis in South Beach with the Miami Heat.
Think about it: The Heat consistently outperform expectations, making deep runs with a grit and determination that is unmatched, doing so with minimal stars in the process.
Giannis joining a team with that kind of proven playoff DNA would immediately elevate them to championship favorites, year after year. He wouldn’t have to carry the entire offensive and defensive load as he often does in Milwaukee. The Heat’s balanced attack and strong supporting cast would lighten his burden, allowing him to be even more effective in crucial moments. And just imagine that duo of him and Bam Adebayo … Lord have mercy. (RELATED: Ever Wonder Where Sports Leagues Lean Politically? New Survey Reveals Exactly What Parties Athletes Are Members Of)
To truly cement his legacy as one of the all-time greats, he needs to be in a situation where he has consistent support and a clear path to multiple championships. A dynasty if you will.
The writing is on the wall, and the song of the 3-0-5 is blaring. Come home, Giannis.
